Yankees Sweep Red Sox!!

Mark Teixeira hit the tiebreaking homer two pitches after Johnny Damon went yard in the eighth inning Sunday night, and the New York Yankees went on to beat the hated Red Sox 5-2 and finish off their first ffour game sweep of the Red Sox since 1985.

As Teixeira hit the high fly ball down the right field line, he kept watching and watching as he trotted towards first base, holding his bat, hoping that the ball would stay fair.

“I’ve hit a lot of balls like that that continue to hook and go foul, and I go back and pick up my bat and dust it off,” Teixeira said. “So, I just held onto my bat in case it went foul, I’d just walk back to home plate.”

Instead of heading back to take another hack at it, he continued trotting the bases as Yankee fans went crazy.

The two home runs that were hit in the eighth off of Daniel Bard came one inning after Victor Martinez hit a two-run shot off off of Phil Coke that snapped the 31 inning scoreless drought of the Red Sox. Damon and Teixeira have now hit back to back homers six times this year.

Man, the Red Sox have to be frustrated. I mean, there was a lot of hype before this series took place about how they were 8-0 against the Yankees this year, and then they go out and lay an egg in the fashion that they did. Embarrassing. Almost as embarrassing as the quote from Dustin Peroia after the loss.

“You need breaks to win sometimes and we didn’t tonight, and we haven’t got any in a while, so, you know, we’re excited to head back home and start fresh,” Pedroia said. “we’re in the lead of the wild card. What’s the deal? Good, so we’ll start over.”

…Check again Dustin. You lost the lead of the wild card earlier today when the Texas Rangers beat the Angels.

Pedroia is an idiot. That’s pretty funny stuff…I hadn’t seen or heard that quote.

Things are starting to feel like the late 90′s again, huh? Getting a sense that the rivalry is starting to come around again.
