Take that!! Yanks thump Smoltz and the Red Sox
The Yankees are finally up on the board against the Red Sox this year. The way they won tonight was beautiful. Not only did Jorge posada play great with a number 15 painted on his catcher’s mask, in honor if Thurman Munson, but Melky Cabrera once again stepped his game up.
With Muhammad Ali in the crowd, the Yankees would not disappoint with a 13-6 victory over the Red Sox. This was their first win against the hated Red Sox, and it was sure needed. Not only did Posada and Cabrera go yard, but also Teixeira, and Damon. Damon has now had three long balls in three days. It is a lineup that nobody wants to face.
“That’s an unforgiving lineup in an unforgiving lineup in an unforgiving ballpark,” Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. I couldn’t agree more.
The Yankees absolutely embarrassed John Smoltz. In my opinion, the dude is washed up and garbage. Yeah he used to be pretty nasty, but now, his record is an embarrassing 2-5. What is it with guys trying to play into their fifties? Retire on a high note. Go out with some class. Don’t try to pitch to the best team in baseball when you are as old as Smoltz. That only leads to embarrasment.
Back to the Yanks, they just flat out dominated this game. Joba was a horse on the mound, the lineup was stellar, and the fans were going nuts. Who knows, maybe the ghost of Thurman Munson had something to do with the victory. Regardless of what it was, let’s just hope it stays this way for the rest of the weekend.
