The Yankees didn’t make any blockbuster moves this year like expected. Rumors were flying and names like Halliday, Washburn, and Arroyo were tossed around the ESPN news broadcasts daily. However, the Yankees did make a deal before the trade deadline. They acquired utility player Jerry Hairston Jr. from the Reds.
The trade for Minor League catcher Chase Weems was the club’s only trade made during these hectic days of trading around the MLB. It pretty much shows me that the Yankees are more than satisfied with the roster they have heading into the last stretch of the season.
Hairston is a pretty good addition to the Yankee roster. So far this year, he has played six positions for the Reds, including all three outfield spots. His batting average thus far is a respectable .254 with eight homeruns and 27 RBIs.
Yankees general manager, Brian Cashman, had these comments about today. “I’m happy with the effort made and feel real good about this club. You always want to try and make it better if possible, but unfortunately we just never found anything that made that possible, other than the move we made.”
I feel that the Yankees got what they needed and are ready to continue the rest of the season on a tear. Mark my words, the New York Yankees will win the pennant.

Honestly, is anyone even surprised by this? Two of the laziest players in the game, all of the sudden start hitting jacks left and right, win a few world series, and think they are never going to be accused? HA!
And will someone answer why in the world Big Papi Ortiz was wearing chick sunglasses? Get a life. Oh, and while your at it, you are suspended for the rest of the year for your hypocritical remarks that you made earlier. Here is his famous line. “I think you clean up the game by testing…You test positive, you’re going to be out. Period.”
Well then, if that is the case Papi, Adios!
Who cares about Manny anyway. The dude has gone from a man’s chest, to a woman’s thanks to all of his feminine pills he is swallowing. Him and his long hair will be out of the game soon enough and we won’t have to worry about it.

Mariano Rivera has done it. The Yankee closer has recorded his 500th save and has joined a very prestigious club of 500 save pitchers. So prestigious that he is only the second member to enter. Mariano tried to play it off as if it was no biggie. Come on man! Only one other person has done this in the history of the game! Crack a smile or something.
It seemed as though Rivera was more excited for his other milestone on this memorable night. That is right. Two milestones in one game. Rivera got the first RBI of his major league career in the same game. He came to bat in the ninth inning with bases loaded. He battled, fouled off a few pitches, and eventually drew a walk from Francisco Rodriguez which gave him his first RBI.
The New York Yankees ended up taking 5 of 6 games from their crosstown rivals, and did so with class, as usual. Thanks to the greatest closer to ever play the game, ESPN and the sports world will have a good night of sports talk, and the Yankees will enjoy another win.
