CC and the Yankees blank the Red Sox again
CC Sabathia shut out the Boston Red Sox tonight, just as AJ Burnett did last night, putting the New York Yankees in position for a much needed four game sweep.
Sabathia didn’t allow a runner past second base the entire eight innings that he threw while the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 5-0 for its sixth win in a row. The Yankees rotation is really starting to contend to be the best rotation in the MLB. Can you tell me there is a better rotation right now? I think not. They are slowly but surely putting that target on their own back heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
Derek Jeter had some run production to help out his pitcher. Jeter hit an opposite field, two run jack in the eigth inning to help the Yankees, who extended their AL East lead to 5 1/2 games. Jeter wasn’t the only one who decided to bring his lumber to the ballpark. Robinson Cano cfinished with three hits on the night.
Jeter is enjoying the way that his teamates are throwing the ball by saying, “When you pitch, you’re always going to have a chance to win.” Derek,
I couldn’t agree with you more.
My main man Sa bathia only allowed two hits, walked two and struck out nine in 7 2/3 innings, tying his season high of 123 pitches that was set on June 11 in a loss to the Red Sox at fenway Park.
New York will be sending Andy Pettitte to the mound tomorrow night against Jon Lester as they try for for their first four game sweep of the Red sox since 1985. Currently the Yankees shut out streak is the longest it has been since a 33 inning stretch from Sept. 1-24, 1952.
The Red Sox players just couldn’t getr a piece of Sabathia.
“CC was dominant,” Dustin Pedroia said. “Everyone knows how good he is. I think AJ was pretty darn good yesterday, too.”
Boston’s starter, Clay Bucholz, was a bright spot for the team today. He only allowed six hits and two runs throught six solid innings. That is pretty good considering that last time he took the mound, last Sunday at Baltimore, he gave up seven runs and nine hits in only four innings.
There was a little bit of testiness in the game when Ramon Ramirez, who replaced Bucholz, was ejected in the seventh for dotting Alex Rodriguez in the arm with one out. Ramirez was warned after throwing a ball up and in on Mark Teixeira right before Rodriguez came to the plate.
As CC Sabathia was pulled in the eigth inning, he received a standing ovation from a sold out Yankee Stadium. “I had goosebumps walking off,” he said, “It was unbelievable to get that type of ovation.”
