Mariano Rivera records his 500th save

Mariano Rivera has done it. The Yankee closer has recorded his 500th save and has joined a very prestigious club of 500 save pitchers. So prestigious that he is only the second member to enter. Mariano tried to play it off as if it was no biggie. Come on man! Only one other person has done this in the history of the game! Crack a smile or something.

It seemed as though Rivera was more excited for his other milestone on this memorable night. That is right. Two milestones in one game. Rivera got the first RBI of his major league career in the same game. He came to bat in the ninth inning with bases loaded. He battled,  fouled off a few pitches, and eventually drew a walk from Francisco Rodriguez which gave him his first RBI.

The New York Yankees ended up taking 5 of 6 games from their crosstown rivals, and did so with class, as usual. Thanks to the greatest closer to ever play the game, ESPN and the sports world will have a good night of sports talk, and the Yankees will enjoy another win.
